New considerations in optimization design of sand control methods concerning gravel pack

Abstract:
Gravel pack is widely applied to the sand tontrol methods, which toncem insid+casing gravel pack, high-rate gravel pack and coated gravel pack. Gravel size,sand concentration and pumping rate are the key factors for the successful job and good sand control effect,and are the main parameters to be focused on the design of the above sand control methods. The gravel pack throats construction wss simulated by ccmputer and a new program to optimize gravel size wss put forward. The threat diameter distribution curve of the optimum gravel size should be close to or less than the sieved curve of formation sand. The design program for sand critical pumping rate and mechanical screen parameters was established. The new model was applied to a gss well with sand control method of high-rate gravel pack,and the effect is very wel.
