Preparation of water-based Fe3O4 magnetic fluid and its application in oilfield oily sewage treatment

Abstract:
The water-based Fe3O4 magnetic fluid was prepared by reverse titration co-precipitation method, in which the FeCl3·6H2O and FeSO4·7H2O were raw materials, the water was the carrier liquid, the NaOH was used as the precipitation agent and the PEG was the surfactant. The optimum synthesis conditions of water-based magnetic fluid were determined by orthogonal test. The structure was characterized by XRD, AGM, TEM and TG-DSC, etc. The results show that the average size of Fe3O4 particles is 31.98 nm and the saturation magnetization of Fe3O4 particles is 55.82 emu.g-1 under the following reaction conditions:the Fe3+ and Fe2+ concentration 0.3 mol·L-1, n(Fe3+)/n(Fe2+) 1.5, system pH value of 12, reaction temperature 50 ℃, reaction time 60 min, PEG concentration 60 g·L-1. The product compounded with Polyaluminum Chloride & PAM using a magnetic separation device are applied to treat oilfield produced water. And the effect and efficiency of oil removal is improved significantly. The oil content of treated sewage is less than 1 mg·L-1, the effect of oil removal is up to 99%, and the suspended solids content of treated sewage is reduced less than 3 mg·L-1, which can meet the injection standard A.
