Vortexinduced vibration suppression analysis of tandem risers with fairing

Abstract:
The fluid structure interaction model of tandem risers was established using dynamic mesh technology and user-defined function through software Fluent. Under the premise of considering drafting interference effect, the suppression of vortex-induced vibration of tandem risers with fairing was analyzed. And the accuracy of the results of the study was validated by the designed experiments. The results indicate that the presence of fairing changes the vortex shedding frequency of tandem risers and the vortex shedding frequency decreases as the decrease of caudal horn. Fairing can suppress vortex-induced vibration of the tandem risers when the caudal horn is smaller than 60°. However, when it exceeds 60°, the suppression effect is not significant.
